Sorry mods i know this probably isnt the right section... so feel free to move it where it should go.
I have yet to see a write up on this in the 2.5 years ive owned my s13 so i figured id do it myself.. This worked for me so hopefully it will help others... so here ya go.
Like every other 240sx owner my power window amp was dead. Ive pulled it apart and cleaned it checked the solder points and pcb looked fine, yet it still would not work. So I opted to remove it altogether and replace it with relays.
This is for my 92 240sx SE. It may be different for different models/years. Please check your FSM before doing this. I will not be responsible for any damage that occurs.
What you will need:
2x - SPDT Relays
Wire Connectors
Electrical Tape
Wire
Clippers, Strippers, and Crimpers.
Going to try to explain this the best i can... its late. The reason you use SPDT (single pole double throw) relays is because the window motor is only driven by two wires. For window UP it will drive it like normal, For window DOWN polarity is reversed. So when the relays are open they are ground, when the connection is closed it switches the positive signal through that individual relay and sends the signal through the wire allowing it to energize the motor.
I was unable to find any SPDT relays off the shelf. Upon looking at O'Reillys the clerk looked up the relays and found a headlight relay that is used in various vehicles that was exactly what I needed. Part number r3074. It was $10.49 at advance auto parts.
Make sure your ignition is off and there is no power to the windows before doing this.
To start remove door panel and you see the window amp.
Remove window amp from harness and clip the harness off leaving only the wires.
Here is a very crude diagram of the wiring. Dont hate the mspaint skills..
I just used butt connectors and spade connectors to make the connections. The electrical tape is to protect everything. If you want to get really anal you can solder and heat shrink everything.
There are two positive 12 volt wires going to the window amp. They are the thicker gauge white/black wires. Following the diagram you need two connections on each relay. So I used one + wire for one relay and the other for the other.
The ground wire is split between each relay.
The blue/white down and blue/black up are your window switch wires.
The solid blue and solid green are your window motor wires.
That is pretty much it. I used the old mounting screws to secure the relays (had to mount them upside down to get the panel to fit back on) and it works like a champ.
By doing this mod you will lose your one touch down function. Thats what the white and red wire was for. Im sure there is a way you could wire it up but I just dont really care about it.
Like i said at the beginning of the post it may not work for every model out there.. be sure to check your FSM before doing this.
